Brick calculator for walls (with mortar cement and sand)
Standard Indian clay bricks are 190 × 90 × 90 mm (230 × 110 × 110 mm with a 10 mm mortar joint), giving about 500 bricks per cubic metre of brickwork. Enter the wall and its openings; the tool returns bricks, mortar cement and sand, and the AAC block count if you build with blocks instead.

How it is calculated
Wall volume = net wall area × thickness; bricks = volume × 500 per m³ (standard 190 × 90 × 90 mm brick with 10 mm joints) + wastage. Mortar is about 30% of brickwork volume; dry mortar = wet × 1.33, split by the mix ratio; cement at 1,440 kg/m³. AAC blocks of 600 × 200 mm face cover 0.12 m² each.
Worked example
A 100 ft × 10 ft, 9-inch wall with 120 sq ft of openings: 880 sq ft net, 18.7 m³ of brickwork, about 9,800 bricks with 5% waste, 16 bags of cement and 6.3 m³ sand for 1:6 mortar. The same wall needs about 715 AAC blocks.
Frequently asked questions
How many bricks in 1 sq ft of 9-inch wall?
About 11 bricks per sq ft for a 9-inch wall and 5.5 for a 4.5-inch wall, including mortar joints.
How many bricks for a 1,000 sq ft house?
Roughly 20,000–25,000 bricks for a single floor with 9-inch external and 4.5-inch internal walls, depending on the plan and openings.
Are AAC blocks cheaper than bricks?
Per unit of wall they cost similar or slightly more, but save mortar, plaster, steel (lighter structure) and time; most NCR builders now use blocks for partitions.
